I have sometimes wondered what a composite of the many favourable comments we have received from clients at our Chambres/Table d'Hôtes, Le Chat Chocolat, just outside Forges-les-Eaux in the Seine Maritime Departement of Upper Normandy in France, would look/sound like, so I have attempted to put one together, and it goes something like this:
"We’ve stayed at many chambres d’hôtes in France, but never one like the picture-postcard Le Chat Chocolat, a restored farmhouse set in idyllic countryside in the Pays de Bray, only 5 minutes’ drive from the little, touristy, market town of Forges-les-Eaux.
The welcome at this characterful B & B is warm and friendly. The breakfasts are superb (the usual continental only more so, plus charcuterie, cheeses, fruit, yoghurts, etc.). They even offer the option of a full English-style cooked breakfast, for a modest additional supplement.
As for the multi-course table d’hôtes evening meals with drinks included (and cuisine ranging from French to Asiatic), these are so good and plentiful that they compare more than favourably with the many excellent gourmet restaurants in the area..
The luxurious ensuite rooms (with video players, hairdryers, etc.) are warm and comfortable, with great beds, and the beamed dining room and guests’ lounge absolutely charming. There are in fact two chocolate-coloured Burmese cats around, and many cat-themed items adorn the rooms.
The French-speaking English owners make guests feel that Le Chat Chocolat is their own home away from home. Clients also found it interesting to interact with guests from France and other countries.
There is lots to do at Le Chat Chocolat itself, including books, videos, games, table tennis, bar billiards/pool, karaoke equipment, and sometimes even cabaret provided by the owners.
Sounds expensive? Not at all, fantastic value, and lives up to its own motto - `An affordable experience - not your average B & B’."
Many guests have said that they could not fault Le Chat Chocolat, and one happy client remarked `Le Chat Chocolat does what it says on the tin!'.
So why not come and see if you agree with what most of our satisfied clientele think about us.
Our atmospheric, characterful, renovated traditional Normandy farmhouse, set in 4 acres, nestles in the surrounding rolling countryside on the edge of a former pottery-making village, and offers 4 chic and reasonably-priced guest rooms, all with modern well-equipped ensuite shower or bathrooms, and most with delightful views. One is designed and equipped for the handicapped, and is officially approved by the French Association Tourisme Handicape. It is complete with a wheelchair access ramp and roll-in shower.
All our rooms are rated 3 Keys by Clévacances, one of the two main organisations charged by the French Government with maintaining and monitoring high standards of tourist and business accommodation.
One of our suites has a king-size 4-poster bed (very romantic), another has electrically-adjustable twin beds (very comfortable).
We can accommodate up to a maximum of 15 people at any one time.
The tranquillity has to be experienced to be believed, yet so-called civilisation is only minutes away. In fact, although our nearest neighbours are cattle, we are located just 100 metres or so off the D915 road, a section of the direct Paris to Dieppe route. Paris is about 1½ hours away, whilst Rouen and Dieppe are each only about 40 minutes'away.
Forges-les-Eaux, with its casino, lakes, forest, thermal spa, restaurants, cafés, theatre and wonderful patisseries is less than 5 minutes away. Do take a look at the separate Article about Forges-les-Eaux.
The region between Forges-les-Eaux and Neufchâtel-en-Bray is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and may be best appreciated on foot, horseback or bicycle, along the "Green Way" tourist trail, which follows the scenic itinerary of an abandoned railway line through breathtaking countryside and quaint picturesque villages.
The area offers numerous facilities and attractions to suit all ages and inclinations, including: Angling, Antiques & Bric-à-Brac, Archery, Arts & Crafts, Canoeing & Kayaking, Spa & Beauty Treatments, Crazy Golf, Cross-Country Motor-Cycle Scrambling, Cycling, Fitness Trails, Gambling/Casino, Golf, Hang-Gliding, Horse-Racing, Horse-Riding, Hot-Air Ballooning, Leisure & Amusement Parks, Local Events Programme, Markets, Movies, Night Clubs, Painting, Pottery & Sculpture, Picnicking, Rambling, Running, Sightseeing (Architecture, Churches, Châteaux,Historical Sites, Museums, Natural Sites, Parks & gardens, Scenery, & Villages), Swimming, Tastes of the Region (Brasseries, Cafés, Calvado0s, Cider, Crêperies, Farm Produce, & restaurants), tennis, Theatres & Concerts.
So, do please come and take a look inside the tin!
